LAKE COMO’S $10,000-PER-NIGHT VILLA SOLA CABIATI

Lake Como has long provided a top spot for relaxation and privacy with the gorgeous villas and gardens that front the lake. And travellers have always spent hefty sums to enjoy its legendary beauty and its natural scenery.

Now, a centuries-old architectural wonder – Villa Sola Cabiati that was once the summer home of Milan’s Duke Gabrio Serbelloni, is now among the most breathtaking properties.

Villa Sola Cabiati05

With its frescoed walls, lush gardens, and museum-quality furnishings – it is now open to the public as the five-star Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Only a few select lucky guests will gain access to the historic villa as it’s not even bookable on the hotel’s website. “It’s about providing something exclusive to our guests, in a style that’s very different from the hotel—and creating truly tailor-made experiences there,” Tremezzo’s CEO and owner, Valentina De Santis says.

Tremezzo’s guests can enjoy Villa Sola Cabiati in three ways. Book guided tours of the villa’s two museum floors, both of which were previously closed, enjoy a range of more immersive activities on the 10-acre baroque estate, including yoga and romantic dinners in the Tuscan garden.

The ultimate visit, however, includes the opportunity to stay the night, with parties of up to 12 making use of the villa’s historic furnishings and artwork. Priced from about $10,000 per night, the villa can only be rented in its entirety for complete privacy and comfort.

San Francisco has always been a prime target for tycoons and millionaires looking for a real estate deal of a lifetime, and the latest offer on the market proves it. Developed by Jay Paul Company with interiors designed by Orlando Diaz-Azcuy, the architectural gem is located at 181 Fremont and will be completed early next year.

Five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two powder rooms provide plenty of space for high-end urban living. Luxury fixtures and fittings include hardwood floors, Italian marble, and bespoke pieces created by Diaz-Azcuy.

A private elevator opens to the lobby and foyer, which serves as the entrance to the secluded, sky-high space. Gold sconces elevate the entryway, and a custom brass handle created by Série Rare accentuates a Paldao wood door imported from New Guinea. Equipped with a gourmet kitchen that is ideal for private dining as well as cooking, there is a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, two dishwashers, double ovens, and a sizable kitchen island. Valcucine glass cabinets crafted in Italy complement the chic aesthetic. A secondary service kitchen provides an ideal setting for entertaining guests. The formal dining room conveniently links to a wet bar for after-dinner drinks.

Vacheron Constantin has long set the standard for watches out of this world, but the brand’s ultimate astronomical super-complication is a piece that will leave no one indifferent to its class. The one-of-a-kind wristwatch Les Cabinotiers Celestia Astronomical Grand Complication 3600 is a double-sided mechanical wonder. Its price tag is also astronomical and comes at about $1 million, but it is justified.

Ultimate Astronomic Watch03

This is a piece of multiple qualities aside from the striking number of its complications, which the company has tallied at 23. They are also brilliantly themed and organized. The complications fall into three groups: civil (conventional) time and calendar functions, solar time, and sidereal time. As both solar and sidereal time vary slightly from civil time, each group of complications is driven by its own corrected gear train radiating from the movement’s central wheel for greater accuracy. The solar gear train drives functions includes a marching equation of time, sunrise and sunset times, length of day, and seasonal indications. These are all represented on the front dial with civil-time functions such as the perpetual calendar, moon phase, and an interesting tide indicator with a depiction of the sun, Earth, and lunar orbital positions.

Ultimate Astronomic Watch02

On the back of the astronomical super-complication are such celestial functions as a star chart composed of two rotating sapphire disks with a starry sky over the sandblast-finish movement plates. The watch’s remarkable compactness is even more noteworthy than its multiplicity of functions. At 45 mm in diameter and just 13.6 mm thick, the timepiece is the same size as most sports watches—a reality made possible through carefully designed components, some of which created with advanced photolithography fabrication techniques. However, this does not take away from the ease of reading the dial, which is a truly striking combination and one difficult to achieve.

THE $360 MILLION TOUR ODEON PENTHOUSE IN MONACO

Can you Imagine swimming in a pool with its own waterslide on top of a 170 metre-high tower overlooking the azure Mediterranean coastline?

The visionary for the project is architect Alexander Giraldi, a master of “belle epoque” design, which is inspired by the atmosphere of early 20th century Paris.
This ultra-luxurious property is spread over a generous 5-floor space in the French Principality in the 49-storey building named Tour Odean.
Located within the Golden Citadel of Monte Carlo, the Tour Odeon Tower is the latest addition to the elite status of the city-state of Monaco, which is well known as one of the most expensive areas in the world for luxury real estate, home to luxurious casinos, luxury yachts, exotic cars and exciting events such as the Formula One Grand Prix, the Monte-Carlo Arts Festival, and the Rolex Tennis Master.

Soaring to a height of 170m, the Odeon Tower is the Mediterranean coastline’s second tallest and most expensive building.

A BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS ESTATE ASKS $15 MILLION

Building the house was challenging, Mr. Helm said, since ‘that peninsula is not one piece of rock—we had to secure the rocks together.’

The first visible house on Tortola, approaching from the West, is the BVI’s “Signature Villa” Steele Point. This amazing beauty is for sale. Named after the peninsula upon which this unique home is perched, ‘Steele Point’ is located on the very western tip of Tortola in the breathtaking British Virgin Islands. Surrounded by the most beautiful sailing waters in the world, ‘Steele Point’ is simply extraordinary.

Every detail in this custom home is a masterpiece of design. The villa is actually three structures linked by pathways. At the top is a bedroom with an outdoor shower, further down are the living and dining rooms, 2 bedrooms and 2½ baths, and below that is a structure with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths—including one with its own live palm tree.

CHELSEA HOTEL MANAGER STANLEY BARD’S ART COLLECTION GOES TO AUCTION

Stanley Bard, the longtime part-owner and manager of Manhattan’s legendary Chelsea Hotel, has made a name for being a connoisseur of fine art. Throughout his career he has helped many struggling artists—among them Leonard Cohen, Andy Warhol, and Jasper Johns—to live and work in his hotel for little compensation. As a result, he managed to amass one of the most striking collections that capture the creative spirit of the 21st century.

Tom Wesselmann’s “Study for Blue Nude”

Following his recent passing, the exclusive collection, which features works from Tom Wesselman, Karel Appel, and Christo will hit the auction block in May. Many of the pieces speak not only to the history of the now-closed Chelsea Hotel, but to a bygone era of one of New York’s most culturally-rich periods. Most pieces are a testament to Bard’s influence on the artists as with Tom Wesselmann’s Face #1, for instance, featuring the note “For Stanley—With Affection—Tom Wesselmann” on its back. The piece is expected to fetch up to $800,000. Handled by Freeman’s, the auction will handle works from some of the greatest artists of this century.

Private aviation continues to undergo exciting upgrades thanks to Embraer’s designers. Business travellers can now enjoy two new Art Deco–inspired interiors for the flagship Lineage 1000E business jet: the Manhattan Airship and the Hollywood Airship. For these projects Embraer collaborated with designer Eddie Sotto, as it did on the Skyacht One and Skyranch One cabins.

The Manhattan Airship02

The Manhattan Airship boasts elegant dark wood flooring and panelling, a metallic mural of the circa-1930s New York City skyline, and the Cloud Club—a spacious lounge area with a bar with retractable stools, vintage sconces, and a mohair-and-lambskin divan under a city-loft-style window.

The Manhattan Airship03

The second option is the Hollywood Airship interior with lighter and warmer tones, and chrome and marble accents throughout.

The Hollywood Airship01

Leather accents on the walls and headliners depict Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose, the Sunset Tower, and vintage cars. Each design sports expansive stylistic windows that allow plenty of light into the cabin and offer panoramic views of what’s outside the aircraft.

The Hollywood Airship03

These interiors are a step up of traditional business-jet interior design, which is typically dominated by simplicity and functionality. Conveying the Art Deco style of the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building with a mosaic of the Manhattan skyline, is a first for this type of high-concept design.

The US jeweller Harry Winston bought the blue diamond, and immediately after the sale, it was renamed into ‘The Winston Blue’.

LEXUS’ NEW 42-FOOT SPORT YACHT

Lexus' New 42-Foot Sport Yacht

The engine is based on the one that powers Lexus’ new LC 500 coupe. There is a “turbo-boost” option at the helm, which sends additional 1,000 rpm over the rev limiter for an adrenaline-inducing burst of speed.

Lexus' New 42-Foot Sport Yacht

The Sport Yacht’s hull is made entirely of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic, making it lighter with about 2,200 pounds. A 7-inch-diagonal touchscreen in the center of the steering wheel gives the captain full control of the boat’s navigation and entertainment systems. All design elements were inspired by the brand’s LFA supercar. The large, aggressive-looking forefoot complements the way the exterior lines run seamlessly from stern to bow, without any sharp edges. The seamlessly flowing design concept accentuate the profile of the yacht.

Lexus' New 42-Foot Sport Yacht

A panel at the forward end of the saloon and a set of steps lead to a hatch on the foredeck. It allows a deckhand to aid in anchoring and mooring the yacht. The seats line the sides of the cockpit and can accommodate up to eight passengers. Their form is functional, allowing guests to face each other. But when the boat is running, everyone can turn and face forward.

KAVALAN’S FIVE NEW SINGLE MALTS

The Taiwanese distiller Kavalan introduced its first single malt to market fewer than 10 years ago, but that was enough time to establish itself as one of the world’s leading producers of fine whisky. Emerging as an unlikely player on the market for exquisite spirits, the climate of Taiwan has even managed to accelerate the whiskey’s maturation. This has given Kavalan a real shot at competing with renowned whiskey manufacturers in Scotland, America and Japan.

In April, wealthy buyers will be able to sneak a taste of Kavalan’s latest line of sherry and port cask-aged whiskies. The collection includes such exclusive offerings like the Kavalan Amontillado Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky – matured with a cap of flor, imbuing it with a fresh baked bread flavor that is evident in the whisky. Whiskey aficionados who enjoy their beverage with a zesty citrus flavour will enjoy the Kavalan Manzanilla Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky with its medley of dried fruit. Kavalan Moscatel Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky is a sublime treat to the palate thanks to its long, luxuriant and creamy texture, where dates, dark chocolate cake and raspberry jam, honey and toasted nuts come together in a symphony of flavours. The first three varieties of the collection have an asking price of $599 per bottle while the Kavalan PX Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky will retail for $699. Aged in PX casks, it boasts a subtle lemongrass and toffee nuance for an invigorating sensation on the palate. Finally, there is the Kavalan Port Cask Single Malt Whisky – matured in Portuguese barriques that once held high-alcohol fortified wine. The dense fruit-forward whisky costs $299 per bottle and presents a robust combination of brown sugar and plums, with a hint of smoke.
